HC Deb 04 August 1971 vol 822 cc314-5W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what further action he proposes to take with the Brewers Society to ensure that the licensing system for tied houses gives greater freedom to tenants to sell the products of their choice, as nearly half of the on- and off-licence premises are now controlled by brewers having an interest in cider or perry manufacture.

Mr. Ridley

The Brewers Society recommended last December that tenants of tied houses should have greater freedom to sell non-beer products of their choice, including cider and perry. I see no grounds for further action on my part at present.
