HC Deb 04 August 1971 vol 822 cc299-300W
Mr. Alexander Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals he has received, and what consideration he has given to them, from local authorities in Lanarkshire, about the establishment of a central park in mid-Lanarkshire, including the Hamilton constituency; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The town councils of Hamilton and Motherwell and Wishaw, together with Lanark County Council, have put to me their proposals for Strathclyde County Park, to be created in the floodplain of the Clyde between Hamilton and Motherwell.

I have recently informed these local authorities that, although the costs have increased, their proposals remain broadly acceptable in principle for grant under the Industrial Development Act, 1966, and the Countryside (Scotland) Act, 1967.
