HC Deb 04 August 1971 vol 822 c299W
9. Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to ensure that, in regard to the appointment of justices of the peace, those who give acknowledged voluntary service shall receive a fair share of the appointments; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The first considerations for these appointments, on which my right hon. Friend is advised by local committees, is personal suitability. Public service is among the other factors taken into account.
