HC Deb 04 August 1971 vol 822 cc328-9W
Mrs. Fenner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what arrangements the European Economic Community has made for consultation with the nursing profession before the proposed directives on nursing are finalised; and what opportunities the nursing organisations in this country will have to give their views on the application of the directives to the United Kingdom.

Sir K. Joseph

I understand that the Commission has agreed to the establishment of a liaison committee representative of European nursing organisations which will be able to comment on the draft directives, and that the Royal College of Nursing will be given observer status on that committee. As to the possible effect if directives as drafted were applied in this country, my Department has consulted nursing organisations in this country and will be maintaining close liaison with them for the purpose of determining our attitude to the E.E.C. proposals.
