HC Deb 04 August 1971 vol 822 c326W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give an estimate of the additional numbers of civil servants required in his Department to implement the new range of allowances introduced by him since taking office.

Mr. Dean

The new range of allowances introduced under the National Insurance (Old Persons' and Widows' Pensions and Attendance Allowance) Act. 1970, the Family Income Supplements Act, 1970 and the National Insurance Act, 1971 have together required an increase of about 1,050 civil servants in my Department. About 400 of these additional posts will be withdrawn at the end of the take-on period for Attendance Allowance.
