§ Mr. Dudley SmithAt 5th April, 1971, 5,475 persons were registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Ilkeston, Heanor and Alfreton Employment Exchange which is the area nearest equivalent to the Ilkeston constituency for which figures are available. No estimate has been made of the extent to which this level of unemployment is due to cost inflation or industrial action in support of wage claims.
