§ 82. Mr. Worsleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many houses he estimates will be built or improved in Greater London by housing associations aided by local authorities during the current year and the two following years.
§ Mr. ChannonSuch estimates are not available. A measure of the level of current housing association activity is that the number of new dwellings put to tender in 1969 and 1970 was 2,111 and 1,715 respectively, and the number approved for improvement grant was 1,146 and 1,830.
§ 87. Mrs. Fennerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the number of dwellings made available to local authorities in the Greater London area by housing associations and societies in the three years 1964 to 1967; and how this compares with the number made available in the three years 1967 to 1970.
§ Mr. ChannonThe proportion of dwellings provided by housing associations which is made available to the local authority varies according to the precise agreement in each scheme, and the information requested is not readily available, but the total number of dwellings built or improved by housing associations has increased by over 150 per cent. between the period 1965 to 1967 and the period 1968 to 1970, and I am confident that local authorities have benefited from this increase in carrying out their housing functions.
