§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give for the longest and most convenient stated period of time the number of public demonstrations which have taken place in the United Kingdom in protest against the treatment of Jews in Russia in which breaches of the peace have occurred, together with details of the action which has been taken against those responsible.
§ Mr. SharplesI have information only as regards the Metropolitan Police District. Between 1st January, 1970, and 31st March, 1971, there was one such demonstration in which a number of persons were ejected from private premises as trespassers, and one man was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer. The charge was dismissed.
