§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what estimate he has made of the extent to which, under known conditions of Great Britain's entry into the European Economic Community, entry of carpets made in the countries of the Six into Great Britain will affect British production; and to what extent British-made carpet prices would have to be reduced to harmonise with the prices as charged in the countries of the Six.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantIt is impossible to quantify the effect of the two-way increase in carpet trade which entry into the E.E.C. would bring. But the British carpet industry has made clear that it is ready to face the challenge of entry.
