§ Mr. Dudley SmithAt 5th April, 1971, 1,694 males and 191 females were registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Peterlee and Wingate employment exchanges, which approximates broadly to the Easington constituency. Percentage rates of unemployment were 9.1 for males and 2.6 for females. The corresponding rates for Great Britain were 4.6 and 1.4. The figures are provisional.
