§ Mr. Pentlandasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is aware that the Caterpillar Tractor Company of Birtley, County Durham, is proposing to reduce its labour force by a substantial number; and what action he proposes to take to help to find alternative employment for the workers involved.
§ Mr. Dudley SmithMy local officers are in close touch with the firm and arrangements have been made for a job team to begin interviewing at the factory on 19th April following a special canvass for jobs in the area. Every effort will be made to find alternative employment for those made redundant.
