§ Mr. Madelasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he expects the level of United States forces in European to be maintained at its present level throughout the 1970s.
Mr. Anthony RoyieIn his Foreign Policy Report of 25th February, President Nixon reaffirmed his intention to "maintain and improve (United States) forces in Europe and not reduce them without reciprocal action by our adversaries." I am confident that, throughout the 1970s, it will remain an American interest to retain substantial conventional forces in Europe.
