HC Deb 07 April 1971 vol 815 cc219-20W
Mr. Selwyn Gummer

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what changes in the organisation of education in the United Kingdom she envisages as being necessarily consequent upon Great Britain's joining the Common Market;

(2) whether entry to the European Economic Community would require her to assume responsibility for the curricula of schools and colleges in the United Kingdom.

Mrs. Thatcher

Entry to the European Economic Community would not entail central Government responsibility for the curricula of schools and colleges in the United Kingdom, and I know of no grounds for expecting that it would necessitate any changes in the organisation of education.
