§ 49. Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make an estimate of total unemployment benefits paid out because of short-time working as a result of agreements between industry and the trade unions, by working from Monday to Thursday in the first week and Tuesday to Friday in the second week and thereby creating four consecutive days of unemployment to justify the payment of unemployment benefits, in the first quarter of 1971; and how this figure compares with those for the previous four quarters in 1970 and previous years.
