§ 56. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will give an undertaking that the next increase in retirement pensions will be such as not only to include provisions for a real increase in the living standards of such pensioners in addition to covering the depreciation of the pension due to rising living costs since the last adjustment, but also an increase to cover the depreciation in the purchasing value of the £ sterling 71W from 1970 onwards in general and in particular for the increased cost of living resulting from Great Britatin's entry into the European Economic Community.
