HC Deb 02 April 1971 vol 814 c447W
Mr. Concannon

asked the Secretary of State for Employment why the former employees of Blanford Gee Cementation Company Limited who were made redundant from Rufford Colliery in March, 1970, have not received any redundancy pay: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Employment why the former employees of Blanford Gee Cementation Company Limited who were made redundant from Clipstone Colliery, Nottinghamshire, in December, 1968, have not received any redundancy pay: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bryan

The question of whether these men are entitled to redundancy payments has been in dispute and the subject of proceedings before an industrial tribunal and in the High Court. I understand that the Company is considering whether to appeal to the Court of Appeal against the High Court's decision. As the company is now in liquidation, if the final outcome is that redundancy payments are due, they will be made out of the Redundancy Fund.
