Mr. Ashton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) how many unqualified teachers have been dismissed by Nottinghamshire County Council this year; and how many are undertaking training courses in order to qualify;

(2) how many local authorities, and which, are giving compensation to unqualified teachers they have dismissed this year; and what are the terms of the compensation;

(3) what estimate she has made of the number of unqualified teachers who will be dismissed by local authorities this year; and how many more are taking training courses in order to qualify.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many unqualified teachers of shorthand and/or typewriting have, during the last 14 months, been recommended by local education authorities to her for her consideration to confer on them qualified teacher status; how many teachers of these have been accepted by her for such status; and how many had less than 20 years' satisfactory teaching service.
