HC Deb 30 October 1970 vol 805 c216W
Sir Elwyn Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, in view of the fact that the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police has indicated that he will be withdrawing in July, 1971, the police road safety teams from their present duties in the schools and other spheres within the jurisdiction of Road Safety Councils, she will provide alternative instruction to school pupils on road safety.

Mr. van Straubenzee

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport has been in touch with the local authorities concerned about the possibility of alternative arrangements. Advice to teachers about road safety education has been given in the Department's pamphlet "Safety at School", and teaching materials provided by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, to which the Department makes a grant.
