§ Mr. Bishopasked the Secretary of State for Social Services on what dates he proposes to make operative the various sections in the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act; what financial grants are being made available to local authorities to implement the Act; and if he will substantially increase the publicity regarding the Act both to local councils and to the public.
§ Mr. AlisonSection 1 will be brought into force when social services departments of local authorities have been set up and are in a position to carry out the necessary work in its proper context. Any expenditure by local authorities under the Act is relevant expenditure for the determination of rate support grant. The circular explaining the Act, issued to local authorities on 17th August last, was widely publicised: local publicity about services is a matter for each authority to consider in relation to its own area.
