§ 104. Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when she intends to implement the Public Libraries and Museums Act, 1964.
§ Mrs. ThatcherI would refer the hon. and learned Member to the answer I gave him on 10th July.—[Vol. 803, c. 106–7.]
§ 105. Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what reviews he has recently held of non-county boroughs and urban district councils of less than 40,000 population to see if they fulfil the requirements of Section 6 and Section 10 of the Public Libraries and Museums Act, 1964.
§ Mrs. ThatcherNone. No initiative is contemplated on Section 6 pending the development of the Government's plans for local government organisation. As regards Section 10, a large amount of information about public library services in England and Wales is collected and reviewed each year. Action is taken where appropriate and any complaints are always investigated. It has not so far proved necessary to have resort to the power to hold local inquiries.
