HC Deb 29 October 1970 vol 805 c188W
101. Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress is being made in the extension of nursery education.

Mr. van Straubenzee

During 1969 the number of children in maintained nursery schools together with those under five in maintained primary schools (excluding rising five's) rose from 125,000 to 141,000. The places so far approved under the urban programme will provide nursery education for at least another 10,000 children.
