HC Deb 29 October 1970 vol 805 c192W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will seek to ensure that all schools coming within the jurisdiction of her Department have fire drill at least once in every quarter; and whether she will arrange to have included in the education syllabus of all schools instructions and lessons on fire prevention and on the action to be taken to contain fires until the fire authorities are contacted.

Mr. van Straubenzee

These are matters for the responsible authorities and the heads of schools. The Standards for School Premises Regulations, 1959, include requirements about safety from fire, and the Department's pamphlet "Safety at School" recommends periodic fire drill in all schools.
