HC Deb 29 October 1970 vol 805 cc170-1W
67. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will discuss with the British Medical Association and the Pharmaceutical Society the establishment of a central register of persons suffering from drug dependence.

Mr. Sharples

Under the Dangerous Drugs (Notification of Addicts) Regulations, 1968, medical practitioners are required to notify the Chief Medical Officer at the Home Office of the names of persons whom they consider, or have reasonable grounds to suspect, to be addicted to any drug controlled under Part I of the Schedule to the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1965. The Home Office keeps a record of these notifications.
