HC Deb 29 October 1970 vol 805 cc192-3W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will hold an inquiry into the failures of 747 Jumbo jets operating into and out of British airports, with particular reference to engine failures.

Mr. Noble

I do not consider there are grounds for any general inquiry by the Department but the circumstances of the incident at Heathrow on 27th October are being looked into by the Accidents Investigation Branch. The Air Registration Board is keeping in close touch with the United States Federal Aviation Agency and the engine manufacturers on the question of engine reliability in Boeing 747 aircraft.
