asked the Minister of State for Defence what was the number of men of the Regular Army and of the Ulster Defence Regiment involved in arms searches in each of the last four weeks.

The numbers of Regular troops involved in arms searches in each of the past four weeks were as follows: week ending 3rd October, 400; week ending 10th October, 470; week ending 17th October, 672; week ending 24th October, 701.

Members of the Ulster Defence Regiment are not used for searches of land or buildings although they are employed in arms security checks on vehicles. Statistics of these checks are not available.
