asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on the United Nations Economic and Scientific Co-operation Conference of Ministers of the European Member States responsible for science policy; and what steps are being taken to implement its recommendations.

Fewer than half the 54 recommendations adopted by the conference were addressed to Member States. Most of those that came within the responsibility of my Department are in line with our present policy. We are considering what further action if any is necessary.
