HC Deb 28 October 1970 vol 805 cc128-9W
53. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is aware of the threatened strike on 11th November by more than 100,000 shipbuilding and engineering workers in Glasgow and the West of Scotland against the number of redundancies proposed in the area; and what steps he proposes to avert this stoppage of work.

Mr. Dudley Smith

I understand that a token one-day strike of engineering and shipbuilding workers in Glasgow and the West of Scotland has been called for 11th November as a protest against redundancies recently declared in the area. The Government are continuing their efforts in consultation with local authorities to introduce new industry to the area.
