HC Deb 28 October 1970 vol 805 cc143-4W
Mr. Cronin

asked the Minister of State for Defence what progress is being made with the standardisation of Army and Air Force equipment for the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

Mr. Lambton

Comprehensive machinery exists, within N.A.T.O., for the pursuit of equipment collaboration, standardisation and inter-operability. The Conference of National Armaments Directors provides a valuable means for the harmonisation of national equipment plans and exchanges of information; several major N.A.T.O. projects covering a variety of equipment needs have been put in hand. They include the Multi Rôle Combat Aircraft, the Jaguar aircraft, and the new FH 70 Howitzer in which the United Kingdom is playing a leading rôle.
