HC Deb 28 October 1970 vol 805 c149W
Mr. Douglas

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will transfer the whole of educational finance in Scotland to the Central Government.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

No.

Mr. Douglas

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish the latest figures for the cost of education per primary and secondary pupil in Scottish education authorities, the average for Scotland and the range.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

This information is not available in the form requested but the latest estimates of average expenditure per pupil in all schools and in primary and secondary schools are given in Chapter 7 of "Education in Scotland in 1969" (Cmnd. 4312).

Mr. Douglas

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish figures showing the proportion of local authority rate revenue devoted to education, giving the average figure for the authorities and the range.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The available information does not enable me to relate expenditure on education to rate revenue. For all Scottish local authorities, revenue expenditure on education in 1967–68 represented 49.9 per cent. of total rate fund expenditure. Figures for individual rating authorities are not available.
