HC Deb 28 October 1970 vol 805 c129W
55. Mr. Robert Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps are being taken by Her Majesty's Government to ensure that consumer produce is sold in recognisable quantities such as fractions or multiples of the pound avoirdupois.

Mr. Ridley

Most basic foodstuffs are already required to be packed in such sizes by the Weights and Measures Act 1963. It seems undesirable to introduce new prescribed quantity requirements in advance of metrication.
