§ Mr. Buckasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a further statement concerning the future of British Standard Time.
§ Mr. CarlisleThe results of the Government's inquiry into the effects of British Standard Time are set out in the White Paper on the Review of British Standard Time published today. The Government are not seeking to influence the final decision in any way, and the paper presents the arguments both for and against the new time system without making any recommendation whether or not it should be retained. To enable hon. Members to debate this matter fully, draft orders making British Standard Time permanent will shortly be laid before both Houses of Parliament in accordance with Section 4 of the British Standard Time Act, 1968 and it will then be for Parliament to decide, on a free vote taken in the light of the information contained in the White Paper, whether these orders should be approved or rejected.
