Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will make a statement on his policy for recruitment to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

Mr. Ian Gilmour

Recruits who, on enlistment, express a preference for the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders will be noted for service with the Regiment, subject to vacancies occurring and manning priorities.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the future rôle of the now reduced 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

Mr. Ian Gilmour

The representative company of the 1st Battalion, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, will be given a rôle as an airportable company in a brigade of 3 Division.

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will publish a note of the number of officers, non-commissioned officers and men and their ranks who will form the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

The representative company of the 1st Battalion, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, will have 6 officers, 114 non-commissioned officers and men, and 6 pipers.
