HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 cc68-9W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will introduce discussions within the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation about the difficulties which British computer manufacturers are experiencing through the Consultative Committee in selling to the Soviet bloc.

Mr. Anthony Royle

We are in touch with the United States and our other Western allies about means of facilitating the sale of computers to Communist countries subject to the provision of adequate safeguards as to their use. The difficulties experienced by British computer manufacturers are no different from those facing other manufacturers. It would not be appropriate to introduce discussion of this matter in N.A.T.O. since the Committee referred to operates independently of N.A.T.O.
