HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 cc110-1W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications if he is aware that residents in Holywell, Flint, and other Deeside townships in East Flintshire are unable to receive Harlech Television and B.B.C. Wales; if he will approve a relay-station to reflect the signals; if he will consider the use of Winter Hill transmitter for Harlech Television and B.B.C. Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chataway

The B.B.C. and the I.T.A., who are primarily responsible for the coverage attained by their services, tell me that the transmissions from Moel-y-Parc (B.B.C. Wales, Harlech and B.B.C.-2) do reach some 150,000 people but not a small number of those who live in the Dee estuary area. In general, the Winter Hill station already covers these areas, but its primary purpose is to provide services for 6 million people in England. A relay station only to provide the Welsh services in this area could not command a high priority.
