HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 cc86-7W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he intends to set financial targets for the British Steel Corporation.

Sir J. Eden

The intention is to settle an objective as quickly as possible.

Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he is satisfied that the supply of oil will be sufficient for all needs this winter; and if he will make a statement.

Sir J. Eden

The leading oil companies have advised the Department that they are confident the arrangements they have made will enable them to meet their commitments this winter.

Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what percentage of United Kingdom fuel requirements is now accounted for from oil imports within and outside the Middle East, respectively; and what is the estimated situation three and five years hence.

Sir J. Eden

Oil accounts for just over 40 per cent. of our primary energy requirements and its contribution is expected to grow. About half of our oil imports currently comes from the Middle East. It is not expected that there will be significant changes in the broad pattern of oil imports over the next few years.
