HC Deb 30 November 1970 vol 807 cc281-2W
Mr. Brynmor John

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many private nursing homes for old people exist in Wales; and how many are registered with welfare departments.

Mr. Peter Thomas

It is illegal for anyone to carry on a nursing home unless it is registered by the County or County Borough Council as registration authority under the provisions of the Public Health Act, 1936 as amended. Forty-eight nursing homes were so registered in Wales at 31st December, 1969, but not all necessarily cater primarily or exclusively for old people.
