HC Deb 30 November 1970 vol 807 cc292-3W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he is aware that the Government's policy of calling for wage and salary restraint upon the part of the lower-paid worker is not being followed so far as the higher-paid company directors are concerned; and whether he will approach the Confederation of British Industry asking that they should circulate their members calling for a salary restraint upon the part of company directors.

Mr. Bryan

The Government's call to employers and unions for a progressive reduction in the rate of increase in earnings to more realistic levels applies to all groups and it would be inappropriate to invite the Confederation of British Industry to circulate their members about the pay of any particular group of workers.
