HC Deb 27 November 1970 vol 807 c231W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what assistance he will be giving to the employees who will be losing their jobs in consequence of the General Electric Company/Associated Electrical Industries decision to close its transformer factory at Wythenshawe, Manchester; what preliminary action he is taking; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dudley Smith

Until such time as full discussions have taken place between management and union representatives, formal arrangements for giving assistance to redundant employees cannot be made. My local officers are, however, in close touch with the firm and will be ready to give advice and information about alternative jobs to those who require our help.
