§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will seek powers to instruct regional hospital boards to indemnify all staff working in mental hospitals against possible attacks made on them by patients.

JosephProvision already exists by way of sick pay under Whitley Council agreements, eligibility to claim industrial injury benefits or compensation under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme and, in cases of permanent incapacity, the superannuation and injury allowance arrangements of the National Health Service Superannuation Scheme.
