HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 c200W
67. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will send out a circular to local education authorities advising that no discrimination shall take place between paying and non-paying children as regards school meals.

Mrs. Thatcher

The Department reminded local education authorities in a circular last March of the need to avoid embarrassment to children arising out of their entitlement to free meals. I believe that authorities' arrangements are generally satisfactory and that a further reminder is unnecessary but I am always ready to look into allegations of discrimination.
