HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 c188W
49. Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in view of the fact that unarmed members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary have been shot at recently during both the hours of daylight and darkness and attacked by petrol bombs, if he will authorise the rearming of the force for its security duties.

Mr. Carlisle

The Northern Ireland Government have made it clear that the R.U.C. will continue to be a civilian unarmed force. This policy has my right hon. Friend's full support.
