HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 c210W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many temporal bone libraries are now in existence for research into hearing loss and vestibular disorders; and what special arrangements have been made to enable persons with hearing disabilities to donate their bodies for use in this connection.

Mr. Alison

Serial sections of temporal bones can be used in research in the pathology of the ear, and collections of bones for this purpose are known to exist in three hospitals. There may be others; they are made on the initiative of the hospitals themselves.

The Human Tissue Act, 1961, sets out procedures whereby bodies or parts of bodies may be donated for research purposes.
