HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 c207W
72. Mr. Dell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the total value of the development area differential in investment incentives, divided into its main elements over the next five years leaving out investment grants on contracts already entered into on 27th October, 1970; and what is his estimate of the total value of the development area differential over the same period on new investment contracted for after 27th October, 1970, on the basis that the investment grant system was still in operation.

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

I would refer the right hon. Member to estimates contained in the answer I gave him on 24th November and the answer my hon. Friend the Minister of State gave on 6th November. In view of the uncertainties involved in forecasting investment expenditure so far ahead, I am not prepared to give forward estimates of the build-up of assistance to the development areas in individual years; or to make detailed hypothetical estimates in relation to a scheme which has now been ended.—[Vol. 807, c. 58–9; Vol. 805, c. 475–6.]
