91. Mr. Bob Brownasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will seek to introduce legislation to make the wearing of seat belts compulsory;
(2) what is the estimated percentage of drivers and front-seat passengers who wear seat belts.
§ Mr. PeytonA Road Research Laboratory survey in South-East England this year showed that the proportion of front seat car occupants wearing seat belts ranged from about 32 per cent. on motorways to 6–8 per cent. on town roads. I have no present plans for compulsion.
