HC Deb 25 November 1970 vol 807 c170W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the present student population of the Huddersfield Polytechnic; what she expects it to be in the next three, five, and 10 years; and what steps she is taking to encourage the local authority to provide suitable student accommodation.

Mr. van Straubenzee

The polytechnic has 2,700 students, of whom some 1,300 are on full-time or sandwich courses. Future student numbers will depend on various factors and it is not possible to be precise as to what they will be in a given year. A new student hostel should be taken into use next autumn. Proposals for additional residential accommodation will be considered on their merits in the light of the available resources.
