HC Deb 25 November 1970 vol 807 c160W
Mr. Laurance Reed

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he has completed his consideration of the proposal of Trinity House and the Honourable Company of Master Mariners to alter the present direction of shipping traffic through the Dover Strait and the southern North Sea; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Noble

The proposal put forward by Trinity House and the Honourable Company of Master Mariners was carefully considered by the Department in 1969. Although the Department was not prepared to support the scheme, it did arrange for it to be examined by an expert navigation group of the Inter-governmental Maritime Consultative Organisation. The scheme was considered by the group to be unacceptable.
