§ Sir B. Rhys Williamsasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he will take to reduce nuisance from aircraft noise in the centre of London.
§ Mr. NobleAircraft noise disturbance in the centre of London comes mainly from aircraft approaching to land at Heathrow. Their height is monitored to ensure that they fly no lower than they need, and the number of night flights in summer is restricted, but approaching aircraft are very much limited as to height and direction by operational requirements. In the longer term the progressive introduction of quieter aircraft will assist, as would the successful outcome of research into approach techniques.
