asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the programme for the dual-carriaging of the A30 trunk road through the county of Devon.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects work to begin on the major road improvements between Exeter and Okehampton on the A30.

Preparatory work is in hand on schemes covering the whole route of the A30 between its junction with the A303, near Upottery, and Okehampton. All of these schemes are at an early stage of preparation. We expect to be in a position to set programme dates by about the end of next year.
