HC Deb 24 November 1970 vol 807 cc56-7W
32. Mr. Douglas

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish figures for the proportion of the gross domestic product taken by direct taxation, direct taxation plus social security payments, direct, indirect taxation and social security payments at factor costs, and the expected changes in these proportions arising from the recently announced alterations in taxation.

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the October, 1970 issue of "Economic Trends" where he will find the proportions for 1969, the latest year from which the figures are available. It would be misleading to relate the tax reductions announced on 27th October to the 1969 figures, for they will of course affect tax receipts in later years.
