Mr. Wyn Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will allow more prisoners in local prisons to have home leave.

Mr. Maudling

Yes. From 1st January, 1971 ordinary class male prisoners serving sentences of three years imprisonment or more in local prisons will be eligible for consideration for five days home leave, exclusive of travelling time, towards the end of their sentences. At present such prisoners are eligible only if they are serving five years or more.
